Do your customers and you speak one language? Even talking about the same mother tongue, it is not a rare situation that we use different terms being a customer and a supplier.
Many offshore software companies, oriented on long-term cooperation, offer their clients an ODC model (offshore development centre). This model implies a dedicated offshore team of agreed size, involved full-time on one customer's projects only. Being involved at the same technical domain for a continuous time, the team perfects their skills and shows higher and higher performance, what of course, might serve as a great benefit for such type of customers. But is it what prospects have been looking for? For the recent time I was sure the answer could be only "yes" :).
But recently I've come across a few new prospects and noticed that they were looking for Centers of Excellence to have long-term cooperation with. By this they implied teams with sharp skills in certain technologies, who would definitely meet their needs by going deeply in details and offering the best solution that could only be made. For me it sounds like "ODC" term in functional terms, but emphasis is done of the level of provided services and results; the first term of suppliers is more about providing excellent specialists, the second - about getting excellent results for the buyer.
As we are also an offshore software company, there also might be a lot of offering with supplier's focus in our materials. We offer software development and independent testing services. And what would you want to get? Let's discuss if we match in functional part :).
